Canada Immigration: Safety Warnings You Must Adhere To Amidst Covid19

Tourists and immigrants are warned against unnecessary trips to Canada due to the high number of infections of Covid-19.

Entry into Canada

There is currently an entry ban for Canada. The only exceptions are Canadian nationals and persons with permanent residence status as well as their immediate family members (spouses, life partners, parents, and children). The Canadian government provides an overview and under what conditions entry for visiting purposes is possible for family members. Accredited diplomats and aircraft crews are also excluded. These regulations apply until further notice.

All travelers aged five and over, regardless of their nationality, must provide the airline in question with a negative PCR test result. The PCR test required by the Ministry of Transport must not be more than 72 hours before the planned departure.

All passengers must undergo a PCR test upon entry at Toronto International Airport.

All international travelers aged five or older must self-isolate 14 days after arrival, even if they present a negative PCR test result. Failure to comply with the instruction can result in fines and imprisonment. The Government of Canada has extensive information on travel restrictions, exceptions, and notices of conduct.

Before entering the country, all entrants must also register via the ArriveCAN app or website and provide precise contact information on their mandatory 14-day quarantine plan on or before entry.

Transit and Onward Travel

Transit through Canada is possible to a limited extent if the regulations of the third or destination country permit entry there. German citizens passing through require an electronic travel authorization (eTA), which they should apply for before booking a flight.

For international transit, you must not leave the transit area during the transfer, not even to check-in or to receive and drop off your luggage for the onward flight. Entry and onward flight must therefore be carried out with the same airline. It cannot be assumed that a terminal change at the same airport is possible. The Canadian government has detailed information on transit.

Travel Connections

International flights are only allowed to land at the following four airports: Toronto Pearson International, Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Vancouver International, Calgary International.

Many European airlines only operate transatlantic flights to a significantly reduced extent. The airlines are instructed not to carry passengers who displayed symptoms of COVID-19 (including Canadian nationals). Changes and cancellations may also occur at short notice due to insufficient flight utilization.

Restrictions Canada

In many provinces, among others, Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia have restrictions on the operation of public facilities including cultural institutions, restaurants, and shops.
The Canadian government strongly recommends social distancing and avoiding any unnecessary travel.

Hygiene Rules

At all airports, it is compulsory to wear a face mask for protection. There is a recommendation for traveling on trains, buses, and ferries. The personnel of all transport companies can exclude persons from the transport who do not wear adequate mouth and nose protection. The usual hygiene rules apply.

Make sure you comply with the AHA regulations and also follow the instructions of local authorities.

Note detailed measures and additional information from the Canadian government.
Find out in good time before entry whether your travel plans fall under the permitted exceptions.

If you have stayed in a risk area (no transit), note the quarantine or test obligation when entering Canada and contact the health department at your place of residence. The Federal Ministry of Health offers more information on compulsory testing.
