How To Apply For Canada Tourist Visa
Are you planning to come to Canada to visit family, reconnect with old friends, or explore our beautiful cities and national parks? It is very important to have the required travel documents to ensure a smooth journey to your destination.
Finding out what documents you need to enter the country temporarily is the first step to visiting Canada. If you are coming to Canada on vacation, to visit family, or to do business, you may need a visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
Citizens of the United States do not need a visitor visa or an eTA to enter Canada.
What is a visitor visa?
A Canada Tourist Visa is also known as a Canada Visitor Visa or a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) and is an official document included in the passport. Issued by the Canadian visa office, this document demonstrates that the individual has met the requirements to reside in Canada temporarily as a visitor. It is important to note that TRV cannot be obtained while in Canada, it must be obtained before coming to Canada.
What are the requirements for a Visitor Visa?
No intention of working in Canada unless authorized by an official
Be in good health
Not be a security risk
Have no criminal record
Provide evidence that you have adequate funds to support yourself and your family during your stay in Canada
Have ties to your home country and convince the visa officer that you will be leaving Canada after your visa expires.
How to apply for a visitor visa?
You can apply for a visitor visa in two ways: Online or on paper. Either way, you will need to gather the necessary documents to apply for a visitor visa and submit your application and all supporting documents, including payment of the visa processing fee to the Canadian visa office serving your country of residency or citizenship.
An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) can grant entry to a traveler who does not need a visitor visa to enter Canada.
What is an eTA?
This document is required for most visa-exempt foreigners traveling to Canada or through a Canadian airport. Only those who travel by plane (not by car, train, bus, or boat) require an eTA. Travelers from selected countries may be eligible for the eTA but will require a visitor visa if arriving by means of transportation other than an airplane.
