You can apply for a visitor visa in two ways: Online or on paper. Either way, you will need to gather the necessary documents to apply for a visitor visa and submit your application and all supporting documents, including payment of the visa processing fee to the Canadian visa office serving your country of residency or citizenship.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) can grant entry to a traveler who does not need a visitor visa to enter Canada.

What is an eTA?

This document is required for most visa-exempt foreigners traveling to Canada or through a Canadian airport. Only those who travel by plane (not by car, train, bus, or boat) require an eTA. Travelers from selected countries may be eligible for the eTA but will require a visitor visa if arriving by means of transportation other than an airplane.

How do I apply for an eTA?

Get the correct documents. To apply for the eTA, you must have a passport, a debit or credit card, and an email address.
Online application. You can apply for the eTA online by filling the form on the Government of Canada website. Please make sure you have all the required information ready as the form cannot be saved.
Pay the fee. An eTA costs CAD $ 7, which can be ordered and paid for online, for each family member.
Verify your email. After requesting your eTA, you will receive an email detailing your personal information.
Send documents. Some people may be required to submit the necessary documents before their applications are approved.

Some eTA applications may take only a few minutes and others may take several days to process. This should be taken into account when requesting an eTA close to your departure date.
